We purchased outdoor light fixtures with a mounting base too small to cover the electrical box. These covers were perfect. The plastic layer is of very good quality and didn't scratch when the drill bit scraped against it. The plastic layer covers a metal plate that is stamped with holes (not through the plastic) that match the location of mounting screw holes on the electric box. You just need to drill the holes and supply mounting screws. I carefully mounted the base of the light fixture on the cover (measured and drilled the holes) then the cover on the wall.
