The spout's melodic whistle alerts you to when your water is ready to serve. Depending on how much water is in the kettle and how long it’s been boiling, heat may transfer to the handle, especially with gas stoves. Please be sure the lid is tightly seated in place before heating. Gas stoves heat more of the kettle itself, allowing the heat to travel through the body of the kettle into the handle much quicker, eventually becoming too warm to grip without protection. Folks, is a fantastic kettle! Solid enamel, sturdy handle and whistle, and the gradient Sea Salt finish is flawless. It pours very well provided you open the spout when pouring, and I only say this because too many people don’t actually know how to use a whistling tea kettle! I have seen too many reviews, saying it leaks all over when pouring because they’re trying to pour through the whistle opening rather than the kettle opening! Honestly, some people should not be allowed to write reviews if they don’t understand how to use the simplest of products!! heats up using the minimum water level, when heating water for a cup of hot tea. I was using a Pyrex glass measuring cup to heat one cup of water in the mornings in my microwave and it would take almost 5 minutes to begin boiling. I like my hot water fairy hot so really excited that now it takes a minute to two minutes at the most. This was a great purchase and priced very reasonable.
