I took off 1 star because it was almost impossible to remove the drawers from the frame in order to screw the pieces down and together. we had to force the drawers out and it cracked the wood. The bed arrives in 3 heavy boxes. The directions are not as clear as building LEGOs, but we were able to follow them. There are a lot of pieces, so it took quite a few hours to assemble. Some of the pieces were scuffed and slightly damaged upon arrival, but not bad enough that we wanted them to be replaced. The bed is large and heavy when it's completely done, so make sure you have it where you want it as you complete the last few steps. The light in the shelf is cool, but the controls to turn it on/off are kind of weird, and the instructions suggest putting it in a place that you can't reach once the bed is assembled, so that doesn't make any sense. Overall it turned out really nice. The kids love it so far. We really like all the storage spaces. They didn’t give us enough of some of the screws so we had to go out and buy our own, but it ended up working out just fine. We had to attach the brackets to the inside of the book case part because they wouldn’t fit on the back of the stairs like it was shown in the picture. It was SUPER easy to put together. It had the same screws basically for everything, so it was hard to mess up. The tracking of the shipment was also super convenient and accurate. I was thrown off with the staircase handrail, it’s not very kid friendly to hold onto because it’s low.
