This is a very nice cat shelter for the feral cat that has moved into my yard . Very simple to assemble, sturdy and looks like it will hold up in the Midwest weather. The roof is hinged and the floor is removable. To insure that the floor is not pushed up by a predator, I added two bricks inside the shelter. My feral cat had kittens in this box about 4 months ago and has been sleeping in it at night ever since. She goes underneath to lay in the shade, and also sits on top of the house to get a view. It’s cute watching her teach her kitten how to use it. Whole thing is insulated in the interior and made of wood. The wood will start to split in the weather which hasn’t affected it structurally so far, but if you’re handy it would make sense to cover the exterior with a coat of poly. Love this little cathouse! My husband and I built a deck to elevate the house for our two stray cats. They haven’t gone inside yet, but have been up on the deck to eat and check out the house. We were looking for a safe way to let our indoor cats be with us outside (because lets face it, all cats want to go outside) without them running around the neighborhood, getting lost, or hurting themselves. Welp, this was the answer! Right away, our cats had different reactions. One seemed to be content and immediately took to it. The other seemed to feel threatened initially, like she was being put in a big cage (instead of being allowed safely outside as a treat). But, after we let the second cat stay in it by herself for awhile while we worked outside in the garden, she grew more and more content and actually started to thoroughly enjoy her time in the habitat, not wanting to go back in the house. :) We are planning to put in some cat beds and a water dish and a kitty litter on the bottom. There are four feet with mat keep house away from dirty and dust from ground. It will become great outdoor shelter for feral cats. Worthy method, this cat cage is two-layer design, the upper floor with balcony is roomy enough to enjoy sunlight. Both layer has front doors to enter and exit.
