The two compartments on the top lift up to open but sadly they do not lock in place to remain open, which could be a little inconvenient but there is a slow close on it so it does not slam closed. **TIP** there is a piece that covers the top so you can possibly sit items up there that is probably some type of mdf board and it probably blends in with the packaging and mine was thrown out, so just be mindful and ask for that piece. It’s quite heavy. Not only should you have two people, but it should be similarly tall people who are fairly strong as you have to lift it up onto pegs. I decided to only put one of the door on the top because I want to place decorative items in the other spaces. My only complaint is that the stickers it comes with to cover up the screws are not of a enough thickness to cover up the darkness of the screw, which does make it look kind of cheap when you’re up close. The only issue I had was how the assembly was layered out. The lower side cabinets are connected at first with the smallest flimsy connection and any movement afterwards will stress the connections and break, as it did for me. For that, it loses half a star. However, once assembled it was very sturdy but very difficult to moveslide on carpet. Two of the front doors came damaged in shipping with small scrapes but very noticeable.
