The toy chest is amazing and very beautiful. However, it was delivered severely damaged and broken because of it being shipped by FedEx. A piece of furniture that is worth over $2500 should not be shipped via FedEx and be shipped using a shipping company that will take care of it being delivered without being damaged. I had to re-order the toy chest and hopefully the next one will come undamaged. I have video of the FedEx delivery driver dropping the cardboard box while bringing it up to my front door.. Steven. The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. The box itself is great. Easy to assemble. BUT the hinges for the top are way too stiff. They snap down very hard. I removed them because I don't want any little fingers to get smashed.
