This is an easy and less expensive alternative to traditional fireplaces. It adds a 'homey' feel to the room. It is heavy, sturdy and stable. The insert (which is the black center with the logs and flame) is a separate piece and has the electrical cord attached to it. The cord is hidden behind the mantel surround. The large mantel arrives well packaged but in NUMEROUS pieces which require patience to assemble. It comes with a remote to adjust both the heat output and the flame height. The description states that it’s designed to heat up to 400 square feet, however, I’m not sure that this is accurate unless you’re sitting close to the source. This could have been a wonderful 5-star review ... if only the fireplace worked. The mantel looks wonderful. I love my room with it in it. But this is supposed to be an electrical fireplace, not merely a piece of furniture. It's supposed to heat the room and to display a realistic looking flame. It did none of that when I got it. The remote doesn't work at all. And ever since it arrived, nearly a month ago, I've been trying to get someone to help me fix or replace this. After a few phone calls they promised to send a replacement for the firebox. But then I got an email saying the replacement was canceled. It turns out that was an error. I did get a package, but I had no idea what it was. No indication it came from Wayfair. It didn't look like the firebox. It was some sort of transformer/converter, with all print in Chinese, which I can't read. I finally spent an hour on the phone with a very nice lady at Wayfair, and we figured out that the transformer fixed part of the problem. I got heat! But the remote still doesn't work and I can't access most functions. And if I turn the heat on, I need to burn my fingers to turn it off on the fireplace without the remote. The fireplace is lovely. Perhaps I should have gone with the white in my space but it looks good nonetheless. I wish there was a crackling fire sound effect included for this price point. I’ll have to come up with my own system. It’s solid, my 20lb cat jumps to the mantle without shaking it. Last point the metal grille is painted to look “antiqued”.
