The seat part of the sofa is not hard but not soft. I would say medium to soft but this is understandable given it is a sofa bed and I am overall very impressed with its comfort. Pull out the bed frame under the seat. There are two length options. When it is not fully pulled out, it becomes a chaise sofa, and when it is fully pulled out, this sofa can quickly turn into a Queen-size bed for resting. With high quality sponge,plus soft and skin-friendly corduroy ,the sofa is comfortable which is perfect to sit as well as to sleep on it. With premium quality steel tubing, double reinforcements, and stabilizing legs, the steel folding cot sturdily maintains balance with no worry of toppling over. Breathable velet fabric and high-density sponge upholstery give a soft feeling and excellent support.

The sofa arrived in 2 boxes. It is shrink wrapped. So once assembled it takes 3 days to fully inflate properly. It is comfortable enough. Love the Quaility and modular construction. Very easy to put together. Day 2 of delivery and still see a little sign of compression on back cushions but expect that to decompress with time. The microfiber material seen very good in Quaility. My only minor issue was a few springs on the pull out had fallen out and need to be reinstalled but nothing after that. I would recommend it.
