They primarily stay outside, and they mainly use it when they want a quiet place to rest or a little space from each other. Assembly was straightforward and fairly easy. The only downside was the instruction manual—I didn’t find it very helpful. In my opinion, the dog house is simple enough that it can be assembled without relying much on the instructions.
