Painted just after the Franco-Prussian war, this allegory of foolish unpreparedness takes inspiration from Aesop's wise fable, "The Cicada and the Ant." The French artist's idyllically beautiful work was first exhibited at the 1872 Paris Salon and was seen as a critique of Napoleon III. The authentic stretched canvas replica captures the original painting's texture, depth of color, and even its brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. It is surrounded by an imported, antique gold-toned, delicately sculpted 4" wide designer resin frame with a leaf motif. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.

This beautiful handmade and hand-painted window combines reclaimed wood with soft distressed tones. We offer three colors. If you wish to put them outside, a very thick coat of sealer will keep them intact. Remember that these are all handmade and will be one of a kind. They are handmade out of reclaimed wood. This one has a shelf that is about 5 inches deep. This window measures about 13W x 31H x5D inches. The photo is a representation of what you will receive, each handmade, unique, and one-of-a-kind but in the same style, design, and colors.
