We ended up buying 6 inch mattresses and my husband had to build extended legs for it to come off the ground enough to be able to slide the bottom in and out even still I’m not able to slide the bottom in and out. I have to wait for my husband to do it for me. I would recommend going with a five or a 4 inch mattress unless you don’t mind possibly not being able to slide out the bottom. Love the look of this bed and it gives us more space in that room. However, the instructions for assembling the bed were unclear for the bottom part of the bed, and we had to redo it several times before we finally got it. The daybed looks great in the space and was pretty straightforward to put together. The trundle can be raised which is a plus. My only issue is that the daybed does not come with a matching mattress cover.
