The back just slides into place once the legs are on. For the price point the quality is good. Love my chairs, they fit very well if my family were very easy to assemble the only downside the back of the chairs has a one and a 1/2 inch gap that if you pull them up against the wall, you're not able to say it. Unfortunately, my chairs will not be up against the wall, so you can see it. I Taken the cover off.\nThe pillows and attached it to the back of the chair.So you wouldn't say the gap which worked out very well , just a little small tip. I love this chair and it fits my needs perfectly! Assembly took me about an hour (definitely a skill issue), so just read the directions carefully. The fabric is really nice, and at 5’ tall, I fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the back doesn’t come up high enough for long-term comfort, but a pillow behind my head helps.
