One year ago I bought a cheaper pergola from another company; it had the nylon roof you pull back with a cord, no side screens available. The roof was flimsy and noisy whenever there was a breeze, and if you forgot to close it tight before a rain, the weight of the water was going to tear it . It actually wasn’t 10x10 as advertised, maybe 9x9, and the sun came under the east & west sides, no you were seldom shielded from the sun. So I tried Wayfair after noticing my neighbor’s, got the same one only I ordered the pulldown screens for 2 sides. It also has a louvered metal roof ( huge improvement), we love it! We love how high the ceiling is on this, it doesn’t block our view of the water from the house. We have a house on a lake and we looked at a lot of pergolas after another shade tent blew away during a storm this spring. We wanted something heavy and this is it! We needed three people to put up the four corner posts and top rails, and we could have used four people. Putting up the initial frame is not a two person job. However, once it gets to the point of needing to put the slats in, one or two people can easily do it. It just takes longer than expected since each slat is screwed in on both ends individually. It looks great, the two roof sides can adjust independently for open and close and the handle is easy to operate. We didn’t get the side curtains, but there’s always a shady section for us to sit as the sun moves around. It’s waterproof in the rain and when the sun goes down we open the slats so we can look up at the sky and stars. We have six armchairs under this and it’s great not having to cover them up each night. The rain doesn’t touch them. This is heavy enough that we have not needed to anchor it but may before winter, since we plan to leave it our year round. Everyone who sees this asks where to get it. Im somewhere between 4 and 5 on this. The packaging is horrible so many parts were damaged. Wayfair gets a 5 out of 5 for getting replacements ordered for me quickly. The replacements were packed just as poorly so some got damaged as well but they sent extras so it was not a problem. Sent from the manufacturer so none of that is Wayfairs fault. Instructions were just okay. Not always super clear. Some bolts really wanted to cross thread. Im happy with the look and function. Its not going to keep every drop of water out in a storm but itll do an adequate job. It could be a little sturdier but I dont think you can find better for the price. Im telling everyone about Wayfair customer service. I expected to have to contact the manufacturer myself and be lucky to get a response. Dented pieces, some of the slat holders were not attached and not an easy fix. Some parts sent for the wood grain item which we didn't order. Inspect all pieces in all 7 boxes right away. I set it so the edges fit under the gutters so light rain doesn’t get the patio wet. We love our 15x13 louvered pergola. Looks really nice and expensive and feels solid. It took an experienced crew of 2 about 3 hours to install but I know ot would've taken me and a friend at least 6-8 hours as it'll take longer to read the instructions and plan the steps etc. whereas the experienced pergola installers went right into it. The louvers work well and are the best thing abiut this compared to our previous gazebo. You can bring in as much light as you want while controlling direct sunlight, but make sure you decide which way they should open (by rotating the whole pergola) as that dictate if you can control direct sunlight. The lights are solar with 1 smallish panel but they lasted more than 4 hours on the couple of occasions we used them, and likely would've lasted longer if we needed then.
