Assembly of this bench requires absolutely no tools as it completely snaps together. We did use a soft mallet to tap the pieces in place. It takes two people to hold pieces in place while you’re snapping them. Don’t try to assemble this by yourself. I’m not sure how waterproof it is because I am keeping it under a covered patio. The directions were awful. The parts are labeled, but the lettering was black on black so it took us over 10 minutes just to locate the black lettering on black. Beautiful. We splurged on having Wayfair put it together for us based on numerous reviews of different benches also found on Wayfair. This bench did not have any reviews, but we really liked the way it looked compared to all of the other options, so we took a chance and ordered it, mostly based on the finish of the wood in the online photo. We knew that the photo doesn't always look like the actual product, but we were willing to take the chance, and it worked out for us. The finish is lovely, and the bench appears to be good quality. The pneumatic levers to keep the seat open work smoothly and hold up the seat well so that you can easily put items in the storage compartment.
