These benches are well made, fairly heavy, and easy to assemble. Very sturdy, and they look great. I'm adding a clear coat for protection from the weather. These cracks are called checks. Checking occurs when the logs dry and the cells shrink causing the wood to split, which does not weaken the wood. Checking helps give cedar furniture its rustic beauty. Because the wood is naturally resistant to decay and insect damage, you will have a place to set your books, drinks or you, for a long time.

The end result is very good with an attractive, solid bench. It would have been five starts but got four as the assembly was a little more challenging than expected . First, our bench is only 34" wide, not the 36" advertised. I affixed the upper leg beam, dropped bolts in to the lower leg beam holes and positioned it on the legs - the holes did not align with the bolts. Same for the second leg. I had to drill new holes leaving some of the pre-drilled holes exposed. The diagram shows the braces with a gap between them. My braces were so long they had to overlap and were too long, sticking past the lower leg beam so I had to trim those. To me, that is sloppy manufacturing and easily avoided with tighter procedures and quality control. I can only upload one photo but took pics of all the issues I experienced.. Carol. Durham, AK. This lovely bench matches the convertible bench/table set perfectly. It fits nicely at the end of the table to allow for expanded seating. And of course, it works well in any other place you might choose to put it as well.

I thought the bench was a little pricy at first, but after assembling, it proved to be worth the purchase. Assembly was pretty easy, we did use wood glue and clamps to reinforce because it will be used outside and in the mountains. The only drawback was the packaging. There was no way of removing the bench pieces from the box without splitting the entire box open. Foam was sprayed into the box around the already packaged pieces. If you planned to return the item, you would have to reconstruct the box. No way of breaking down the box and recycling. Great piece for the price. I am over 200 lbs, and it is very sturdy. Light weight enough to move around easily. I put it together myself, but having a 2nd set of hands would have made it quicker and easier. I've placed it in a front flower bed with a fountain and beautiful pots. Good quality, very sturdy, lovely finish and comfortable. Took a while to arrive, and arrived with two support ends rather beat up because the vendor did not put any padding inside the overly large shipping box or pad the 2 protruding pieces, but they aren’t much visible (in the back) and we will touch up. Plus Wayfair gave us a discount or the option to get another one. So we’re good. Really like the bench! Great soft green and the finish somehow brings out gold highlights.
