Putting this together was no joke. That and the inaccurate measurements (see below) are my reasons for taking off a star. I was able to put it together alone but it took 3 days, and a lot of sore muscles, and really should have just asked for help. You ABSOLUTELY need a drill at minimum. The measurements are also off. It is 65” and a hair wide, and at full extension, the bed FRAME alone extends out 88” from the wall and the legs add an additional 2-3”. If you are putting this in a tight space as I was, be sure to note these measurements. The overall quality is however pretty high, especially for the price when I compare to the 3-4k beds I was looking at on other sites. Comes in 4 boxes, received 2 on one day the other 2 the next day. Really nice set, pretty happy with it. Couple of extras that we are doing to it, the brackets to hold the frame to the wall can be seen when bed is down just going to paint them white to make it less noticeable. The barrel of the hinge for the shelf can be seen when the bed is in the up postion. Definitely need to support the bed frame to the wall and into the studds a must. Writing I rarely write reviews, but this product honestly left me shaken and injured and I feel obligated to warn others. The Murphy bed design is fundamentally unsafe. The piston mechanism that’s supposed to assist with lifting and lowering the bed is unbelievably stiff and completely non-adjustable. It requires two adults to safely pull the bed down, which defeats the entire purpose of having a functional, user-friendly wall bed. There is nothing smooth or controlled about the motion—it feels like you’re fighting against the hardware every single time. What’s worse is that the assembly and installation design makes the situation even more dangerous. You’re expected to put the entire unit together and somehow maneuver it upright and secure it to the wall, yet the bed itself cannot be safely opened or controlled during that process. It creates a hazardous, unpredictable setup where the weight and tension are working against you. In my case, this turned into a nightmare. The bed came crashing down on both me and my daughter. She was incredibly lucky to walk away unhurt, but I wasn’t. I ended up with a bruised pelvis and hip, and a badly injured hand. I was actually pinned between the bed and the frame—it was terrifying and could have been far worse. All I could think afterward was if this had happened to my 7-year-old son instead, the outcome could have been catastrophic. This isn’t just an inconvenience or a minor flaw—this is a serious safety issue. A product like this should never require that much force to operate, nor should it put users in a position where they can be trapped or injured during normal use or installation. This unit perfectly utilized a tiny 8x10 “bedroom” in my 126-year-old house. I use it as a multi-purpose guest room (for one) and craftoffice area. It’s super resourceful and space-saving which I love and wouldn’t have otherwise conceived would be possible given how tiny the room is. That being said It’s a great deal for what you get, but what you get is a fully occupied weekend for AT LEAST two people, and that’s if you’re familiar with assembling furniture, which I am. This was hands-down the most tedious and time-consuming piece I’ve ever assembled—however, I expected that to be the case and prepared myself for it. I would advise separating all the parts by step (hardware especially) beforehand to prevent stupid mistakes like using screws on step 37 that were meant to be used on step 13. Every detail matters. I am single but I can see how this project could potentially end in divorce. All in all, it’s a great piece for the money—just prepare yourself for not just hours, but DAYS of labor. Highly recommend for the patient DIY folks. The instructions aren’t great but they rarely are. Fortunately there are QR codes on each step which link to videos showing the guys in the factory assembling it. It looks so great in my guest bedroom. I needed something that was compact since its a small room and not used often for guest, but mainly for me to craft in. All in all it took me about 4 hours to put together by myself. All the parts were there. With a few extra that had me second guessing if I put it to together correctly. Its pretty simple and the picture instructions do help. The storage drawer is nice to hold blankets and pillows. I bought a 6 memory foam mattress. Once folded up and the doors closed it looks like there is a few extra inches to maybe fit a bigger one Not entirely sure. Definitely a gamble to take if you decide to go bigger.
