Overall the kit is nice, It took me about 14 hrs so far to put together the bed section and the cabinet with the drawers. The last cabinet will be quick and i still have to anchor everything to the walls. The total project probably takes 20hrs for a individual who is somewhat skilled at these things. My issues are mostly around the instruction booklet. They are not laid out in a useful and logical manner. You have to flip between pages to find out where things are packaged and then build up your pile of parts before starting a section, also they suggest you start with the bedshell but it is most logical to start with the cabinets. It also has some steps that make more sense to be performed in different orders to minimize movement of the objects and make your life easier. They also don't always specify the orientation of parts which is VERY important for later steps. If the instructions were better i probably would have saved 3-4 hrs of labor. The finished Murphy bed looks great, but getting there was a FRUSTRATING experience. My dad and I spent nearly three full days assembling it, and honestly, finding and organizing all of the parts across five separate boxes took almost as much time as the actual build. Several pieces were mislabeled in both the instructions and on the part stickers, which made assembly more difficult than it should have been. After completing the build, we discovered that one of the bracket bolts for the shocks was stripped, and we spent over an hour trying to fix it before contacting customer service. They’re sending a replacement part, but that means I’ll have to partially disassemble the bed after already finishing it. The drawers have also been problematic. The brackets came pre-installed, but they weren’t positioned correctly, causing the drawers to misalign and fall off the tracks. I had to remove and reposition the drawer slides myself, and even then the issue hasn’t been completely resolved. I was also disappointed that the bed only came with a chain lock to secure the door in the upright position, which didn’t seem very reliable, so we purchased our own hardware instead. Additionally, no hardware was provided to help keep the mattress in place when the bed is closed, requiring another extra purchase. At this point, returning the bed isn’t really an option since it’s already assembled and anchored to the wall, and taking it apart would be far too much work. Overall, the bed looks beautiful and functions as intended, but the quality control on the parts, hardware, measurements, and included components leaves a lot to be desired. The final product fits great in our guest room/office! It took 3 days to build with 2 people (we definitely had to call in a 3rd for when we had to connect the 2 main pieces together). This could have taken a shorter time to build if the instruction booklet was a lot more explicit and if the parts were better labeled. Also, we had to open all 4 boxes to find the parts we needed for each step of the process - this was a major obstacle because of space constraints (the whole reason why we needed a Murphy Bed was because the room was small). The product description is not explicit on the mattress thickness - in the installation manual it says 8" max, but I got a 9.5" thick mattress and it still works. It was worth it because we got it on sale, but I wish there were pre-installation instructions so we could have been better prepared (i.e. I wish we knew to get better/longer hex keys, screwdrivers or drill bits that can fit into tight corners, the correct hardware for bracketing this to the wall, clamps and levels, etc.).. This Murphy Bed comes in several heavy boxes with a lot of pieces. So it's definitely my recommendation to hire a professional to put it together to save you time and to ensure the product is assembled properly with anchoring to the wall for security. I must say it came together beautifully and will fit our needs for additional modern style storage and sleep space when we have overnight guests. The material is somewhat sturdy manufactured wood which is only noticeable up close. The frame will definitely only fit a 10 inch mattress or less. We tried a 12 in and the main door will not close. As many have mentioned, it would have been great to have shelves inside the cabinet but if you're handy you can easily install some for more storage. I have been shopping around for a quality Murphy bed for quite some time and almost bought a $4000 model but I'm glad I was able to save once I found this one for a fraction of the cost. You can some heavy duty anchors, and also put shims between the brackets and the wall, it would be more stable. DO NOT remove the iron straps compressing the hydraulic rods until you have fixed the rods on both sides of the cabinet interior. Mattress not included. Suggest Mattress Thickness : 8 inch.
