The two compartments on the top lift up to open but sadly they do not lock in place to remain open, which could be a little inconvenient but there is a slow close on it so it does not slam closed. **TIP** there is a piece that covers the top so you can possibly sit items up there that is probably some type of mdf board and it probably blends in with the packaging and mine was thrown out, so just be mindful and ask for that piece. The problem is I have an issue struggling with right bottom drawer. It seems like the metal slider has a flaw. They looks exactly like the rest. But I couldn't slide drawer in and out.
