It is solid but with the mdf outer- well let’s just say be careful your contractor doesn’t place it in a place with standing water. The good news is the swelling that occurs dries out but you have to let it sit for days. The other thing is the primer on it is super glossy and even after sanding isn’t the easiest to paint. This is a very nice looking door once stained and installed. My husband had to do a few modifications to mount over the studs. There are also slight gaps in the wood, where the horizontal pieces meet the vertical. I may notice them less and less over time. I gave it four stars instead of five because of that and also because it did require some skill in putting it together and making the modifications put.
