I LOVE THIS BED! The quality is great and very sturdy. Inwas very surprised at how well the wood feels and is very sturdy. A simple twin mattress is enough. There is not enough room for a double or thick style twin bed on top. A queen air mattress fits underneath, so a double would definetly fit. Having 2 people to build it is the best way. Directions were great and all parts are supplied. I would advise to have a better hex/allen wrench set as the included one is not the greatest quality. Assembly wasn't to difficult, but did take about 4 hours to put it together by myself. Hardest part was getting the bed slats that go under the mattress to line up with both sides of the frame to go into the holes, but once you figure it out it's smooth sailing. Overall, very solid and sturdy. Stairs are a nice touch over a ladder and the little shelf cubbies make a good place for small stuff. The space underneath is a perfect fit for a 78" couch.
