I purchased this for my living room because I needed a quieter pedestal fan. It definitely is much quieter than the inexpensive plastic pedestal fans from the local hardware store. It also has a larger overall fan and puts out an increased amount of circulated air. It has many different settings. So far I am happy with the sound level and how it cools down the room better than my old fan. The only thing that is a little different is the sleep mode and the natural mode seem to operate by fluctuating the speed. I don't really care for those modes but the Normal mode is consistent and does a great job. Overall I recomment this fan, The price is MUCH lower than similar fans with these features. I had an extremely frustrating experience putting the fan together by myself (70 y/o female). The instructions are practically nonexistent, but fortunately I have put a lot of fans together during my lifetime. Don't expect any tools, especially the teeny Philip's head screwdriver that is needed for installation of the bottom screw at the bottom of the cage. Luckily, I had one that came with an eyeglasses repair kit. I might also mention that half of my left hand is numb (pinched nerve in back), which made handling all of the screws difficult as I am left-handed. After numerous expletives (I kept dropping the screws), I managed to finish putting the fan together, and took it out to my deck to test it out. It does put out a significant amount of air on the highest level, without much noise. I didn't really try the other two speeds, because I just received it that day, and it was getting dark outside.
