Absolutely perfect for my needs. We now own 5 of these gates which we use to keep our dog restricted to certain areas of the house. The features we like best are that you can install it on either side of the doorway, the gate swings both ways, and you can install it above the floor, if desired. This works out perfectly for our cats, who are able to slip under the gate (mounted 6 inches above the floor). The dogs are not able to follow. Also, the gate is very sturdy and strong and not an eyesore. Finally, unlike a pressure-mounted gate, there is no bottom support bar to trip over.. Nina. Lawrenceville, GA. Thu Jul 30 2026

Baby gates are essential. Living with them doesn't have to be a daily obstacle course. The Baby Proof Me Retractable Baby Gate gives you full childproof protection when you need it — and disappears completely when you don't. Instead of a rigid gate permanently blocking your doorway, this design uses a durable woven mesh panel reinforced with fiberglass rods. It pulls smoothly across the opening and latches securely into a wall-mounted catch. When it's not needed, the mesh retracts into its slim housing, leaving your doorway, hallway, or staircase completely clear — no bar to trip over while carrying laundry, no gate to wrestle at 2 AM. It's built for the whole household. As a baby gate, it keeps crawlers and toddlers away from stairs and off-limit rooms, with a smooth mesh surface that offers no footholds for climbing. As a dog gate, it contains everyone from puppies to large breeds without the visual bulk of a metal barrier. The dual-locking latch resists pushing and leaning, while adults can operate everything with one hand. Its extra-wide coverage sets it apart: the gate extends to fit openings up to 71 inches, spanning standard doorways, wide hallways, and staircase openings that fixed-width gates can't handle. And with weather-resistant materials, it works outdoors too: on patios, decks, and at the top of outside stairs. Installation uses secure screw-in wall mounts with all hardware included Mount it at the top of the stairs, the bottom, the nursery door, or the kitchen entryway — anywhere your little explorer on two legs or four shouldn't go alone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We’ve been meaning to get a divider so that our little one can’t get to the glass doors of our office, but the space is wider than a doorframe, so it was time to find one that was capable of stretching my very wide, but also looks nice and sleek in our main living area. I prefer mesh over bars because I’ve seen many instances of arms or legs getting stuck, or even a head bump. The mesh is much more forgiving in that regard. It was very easy to mount and easy to operate, but I will warn that the clearance on the anchored side wasn’t very big for thick baseboards. We were very adamant to have the mesh to the floor so no one could squeeze under, but it was a very close call with our baseboard sizing. I do wish that piece was a little larger.. Sarahk. Seems to be an ok gate. Looks nice. Was easy to install. There is a small plastic piece with a spring behind it at the bottom of the gate that was broken when it arrived. I just took it off and it doesn’t seem to interfere with operation of the gate so, I’m not sure what it was there for. Pretty sure it was broken before it even left the factory. The box was in perfect condition. We still can’t figure out how to get the cat door to slide up so that’s disappointing. The lock/unlock knob appears to do nothing. Unfortunate, since that was the feature that sold me. In my opinion, it looks nice but you might want to go with another option.. Erika. NY. Sun Aug 02 2026
