Absolutely perfect for my needs. We now own 5 of these gates which we use to keep our dog restricted to certain areas of the house. The features we like best are that you can install it on either side of the doorway, the gate swings both ways, and you can install it above the floor, if desired. This works out perfectly for our cats, who are able to slip under the gate (mounted 6 inches above the floor). The dogs are not able to follow. Measuring 8″ in width, these solid wood clamps are expertly designed to fit snugly around very small spindles, effectively sandwiching two spindles together. I got this when my German Shepherd was a puppy and I wanted to keep him out of the living room. Actually, I should say my husband was having a meltdown because he kept coming and jumping on him so I put the gate up between the dining room and the living room so my husband could have his own kennel, lol it certainly does the job and there’s a very nice gate .
