It is the 2 round wire pieces that hold it out and together and the actual shade with clips made on inside it. Just simple directions by picture, but it is actually fairly simple. These lampshades were packed so well that there were no dents or dirt at all. They are a good value, in my opinion. The only thing that I would change is that each shade has a seam in the binding around the bottom edge that is on the front, opposite the vertical shade seam.
