I personally prefer the understated elegance it creates but if you want gold or brass accents, this isn’t it. The glass on the clock is convex which adds to the high end appearance of this clock. I’ve read reviews where people complained that it created a reflection, making it hard to read. I don’t find that to be the case. We needed a clock/thermometer combo for our patio that could be seen from the house (my husbands desk looks out on the patio) and be heavy enough that it wouldn't fly off when things get windy where we live. This hit all the marks, was a great value for what it is, plus it has a Hygrometer, which tracks humidity. The back of the unit "key holes" sit down over the screw heads and the clock itself is weighty and broad. Between both of those features, I expect it will stay put even in the windiest conditions we get around here.
