I can't comment on the remote because mine was smashed in transit and was rendered unusable. The cooler itself works better than I had expected. It's a little bit annoying because you have to fill it with water on a pretty regular basis. I would say probably a full tank will take you around 6-8 hours of cooling. Even without the cooling function on, it still functions as an efficient fan which works for me since my room tends to be the hottest room of the house, I can just put it in my doorway and it pulls in cool air.
