This product is hand-chiseled out of recycled steel oil drums by Haitian artisans using techniques first developed by Georges Liautaud in the late 1950s when he chalked out his first design on a flattened steel oil drum and then cut it out by hand with a mallet and chisel. Bought the primed functional half round gable vent, and am happy with the solid construction. Before painting needed to remove the insect screen, which was stapled to the back, to avoid getting paint on the screen. Also needed to sand some edges due to wood splinters and one slat which had a significant raised grain pattern. Reattached the screen with brass nails as the staples were unusable.. Caroline B.
