I like putting his favorite books and toys on the shelves, and I can plug in one of his night lights into the port which makes up for the light bar not working. Great bed for a toddler or young kid. Its very low to the ground, which is good as our 4 year old occasionally rolls out of bed in his sleep. The bed took a bit to put together, but was overall straightforward with its directions. The materials are nice and it looks beautiful when finished.
