I bought this to organize my craft items. The shelves arrived disassembled in a box. The directions were pretty clear once I read it through and was able to determine what was meant because the pieces were all separated and labeled logically. I was able to assemble the shelving unit by myself within about a half hour. The shelving unit is much heavier and sturdier than I expected and I am very happy with the quality. Instructions did not give clear enough images for direction of orientation for some pieces, plus would be much sturdier if there were additional buttresses or cross-bars on back or sides. Back surface of shelves is unfinished, so needs to be positioned against wall-- not freestanding between room spaces. The steadiness of the unit depends upon its weight-- otherwise, not very sturdy from side-to-side. Bought two for the pantry and one for utility closet. They fit perfectly. I used some leftover lauan paneling on a few of the shelves to hold footed appliances, which works well.
