Bright light with a compact design. The base is a nice warm gold tone. For me it’s limiting because the only way to turn it on is via the button on the wire at the base but where I have to plug it in the button is under other furniture. The metropolis floor lamp is a sleek, contemporary style with a dramatic elegant bowl shade. It provides approximately 3 times more light than a typical torchiere. A simple high/low rotary switch is located on the shade cup to adjust the brightness. This lamp has a black cord and is smart outlet compatible. We recommend using incandescent bulbs for best results achieving both settings of 50% brightness and 100% brightness with no flicker. When using LED bulbs, it is common to see some flicker on the low setting (the high setting will always have no flicker). A dimmable lead will minimize the low-setting flicker, but may still occur.

Perfect touch for the look that I wanted. I wanted something somewhere between spare contemporary and traditional, which is usually to heavy/fussy for me. This lamp is clean-looking but doesn't look as if it belongs in a cold medical exam-room. I think it fits into the space with a more transitional style without sticking out like a sore thumb. I'm very happy with the result. The uplighting gives the perfect effect for the vaulted ceiling. The lamp is solid and stable. The on/off switch doesn't have the flimsy feel that many others that I've purchased had, so I'm hopeful that this one will hold up longer. I took one star off because assembly was a bit frustrating; I had more than a little difficulty working the electrical cord down inside the tube enough to screw the top of the lamp down completely - a VERY tight fit that took several attempts.
