It is designed to look like a solid beam without weight. The distressed beams are painted either black or white and have the edges sanded over and a brown stain/wax applied for a distressed look. The distressed beams will not be a solid color. Easy to install utilizing a French cleat mounting bracket which is included. Screws are not included. You will need to purchase 3" screws for the application you will be attaching the bracket to. Wood is considered a combustible material. Heat clearances must be adhered to. If installing over a fireplace, check your local building codes and the manufacturer's instructions for your specific fireplace insert or stove.

It arrived nicely packed, but I took one star away as it did not come with the 2 inch wood screws needed to do its install! It also did not come with instructions for installation. This meant searching online for instructions and having to go get the screws needed for the install. I am by no means a major DIY person but it was simple enough to take the bracket, press it against the wall, make sure it was level and mark off the holes to predrill. Rustic beam fireplace mantel shelf. This beam is constructed out of Aspen wood. Each piece of wood is unique and will have more or less character/knots than the other. It is designed to look like a solid beam without weight.
