Where do I begin, initially I was very drawn to this garden arch with planters. However, after opening the box I noticed some issues right away. First, this wood has an odor to it that gave me a headache. Then I picked up a few pieces and was shocked by how lite they were. Not a durable quality wood, but something cheaper. Multiple parts are being held together with staples, the wood supports are not even long enough to go from side to side. The packaging and quality of the cedar is very good. Like Teal, of Pomona, NY stated in their review: it’s a box of wood and bag of hardware and some very simplistic instructions. As a prolific builder and DIYfer I used my experience in assembling the arch. Fortunately, I have a pneumatic brad nailer with galvanized brads which made short time in nailing the many pieces together. I did not follow the slat spacing suggestions from the directions, rather having read the reviews, I made my own jig spacers after careful measurements. Pros: Good quality cedar; Looks excellent when completed; Assembly is straight forward once you figure out the spacing; Left unfinished the cedar will gracefully weather Cons: Directions need embellishment; Not for those wanting a quick assembly; Took over 6 hours to complete; Nails provided are not galvanized and should be of an outside product; Only 2 decorative wooden “arrows”---should be 4 for two on each side; Added longer and beefier exterior screws at the top/side joints for more strength. It is resistant to mildew and rot, making it well-equipped for its outdoor role.

This product would easily be a 5 star product if it had been shipped in protective foam (it came cracked in 4 places) and if the pre drilled holes were actually pre drilled. It was too much of a hassle to ship back so i accepted a partial refund and kept it. That said it’s only half assembled because of the missing pre-drilled holes. Given the cracks in it I won’t be shocked if it doesn’t survive a heavy wind storm. THAT said, the product is beautiful so i only took off the 1 star even though it was tempting to take off 2 stars. 1 of 2 built! I’m disabled and I was able to build it myself. Very simple and extremely light. The hard part in my opinion was digging holes to anchor it in the ground and making sure it was level.
