I have tried several electric log sets and been extremely disappointed. Nothing on the market that’s a log set looks close to being a real fire experience. But this Napoleon sets comes closest. I assembled it myself in about 30 minutes. Instructions were easy. The “glowing fire “ could be more realistic, the flames could be higher and wider and the blower on the heater could be quieter. I paid much more for other log sets that couldn’t hold a candle (or flame ) to this set. It's hard to find a review that spells out the important details so here you go - it's whisper quiet with just flames while the heat is off, it's really not that loud when the heat comes on, the heat definitely won't warm up a room unless it's a small room, no menu lights while it's operating, the flames are an excellent replica for an electric fireplace, even so the price seems pretty high for what you get here. I wanted to add it to an old media cabinet to get some year round ambiance in my hearth room so a serious heat source wasn't as important to me. There are also a handful of reviews that suggest it's loud or it makes a clicking sound and I believe this is what happens if something is wrong with the unit or there's dust in the motor, etc. If you hear a sound while it's just flames, or the heat is ridiculously loud you should contact Dimplex.. Terrific heater! We had an electric fireplace from another box store that the warming unit went bad in and I was unable to get any replacement parts for. The measurements of this unit were correct so I replaced the other heater with this and it has worked perfectly, it even looks better than the original! This is a very handsome insert. I needed to replace a 33 " x 26 " insert and this fit perfectly without using the trim kit. I love it! It looks like realistic logs during the day. And in the evening the glowing embers and flame effect look very realistic and amazing. I’m do agree with others that the crackling sound is not realistic so we don’t turn it on.
