It's a heavy plastic/wood. Took a few minutes to understand the assembly instructions, but I bought 2 of them so after the 1st one I was able to figure out the other one. I'm 5'10" so it's a little lower than a standard chair but I am getting use to sitting on it. The top of the cousin probably will hit the top of your calves. The seat itself looks beautiful and like the major brands but at an affordable cost. I bought both a left and right side to create a loveseat. The seat cushions are thick and nice and have ties to connect to the frame. The disappointing aspect is the back pillows are basically worthless. They feel thin like airplane pillows and have no structure. I will have to purchase foam inserts or different back cushions. The chairs were shipped in a timely manner. The chairs were easy to assemble. Love the look of the chairs. Bottom cushions are a bit firm. I love the style and color of the chairs.
