The Broan line of make-up air dampers removes the unnecessary energy cost penalty from the equation. Broan Make-Up Air Dampers operate only when it is necessary to let compensation air into the home. This is accomplished by the SmartSense fans and/or selected BEST or Broan range hoods communicating with the Broan Make-Up Air Damper when it is time to open and let compensation air into the home.

Purchased this during a kitchen remodel when we determined that we needed a make-up air duct. We had purchased a Thermador Hood for our kitchen when we realized it likely was going to pull out to negative pressure in the home. This has worked great with the pressure switch that automatically opens the damper when the pressure builds in duct. Only had a problem with the pressure sensor on install, found out quickly from tech support that it can only be mounted upright, we had not. Nice unit. Relatively easy to install with 2 people. 1st unit damaged and refunded. 2nd unit better but still some hidden cosmetic damage to the hood. Hood could be thicker metal to prevent this, and QC needs better eyes out the door. Rises high enough to pull most smoke and steam away from all pans, much of it from the front burners, but the back burners are a no-brainer - nothing escapes, especially when the fan is turned to high. Fan control is smoothly variable from almost silent to roaring hurricane strength. Recommend that you use a large diameter vent to the outside to prevent back pressure (we have a 6" adapted down at the fan). This was the only vent cap that I could find with 6" round ducting, for use with my Air Exchanger input. Although it worked, with some difficulty and modification, I wish it were made of plastic instead of heavy duty aluminum. This thing is fancy! It even has a remote control! I love that you can change the fan speeds and the light intensity with a simple touch. It took a bit to install it and I had to get a reducer for the duct because previously we had 7" and this was 6". It is very quiet and you can have a conversation with it on, which was next to impossible with my old vent hood. I really like this. Be prepared to have a way to support it as you are screwing it into the wall. It is heavy. I used 2x 4's on either side to hold it up as I screwed it to the wall and cabinet.. Lora. US.
