There is an obvious top and bottom so its easy to get into position before opening it. It inflated very quickly and does have that smell, which will probably take a week to fully dissipate. Was exactly what we needed! We were looking for a couch for a small space that was still comfortable. The seats were deep and cushions comfortable. Would suggest having two additional large pillows for decor but also makes it more comfortable. Got in white and was easy to get stains out.
