This traditional piece is at home in any fine study, office, library, upscale restaurant, or scientific laboratory. The weather station measures temperature (in °F), barometric pressure (mbar and inHg), and humidity (%). The bezels display an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument. Note: Barometer only operates to 3,000'. Do not order if you live above 3,000'. Weather Forecasting The weather forecast or pressure tendency is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure. In general, when the pressure increases, the weather improves (sunny to partly cloudy) and when the pressure decreases, the weather degrades (cloudy to rain). The weather forecast is an estimation or generalization of weather changes in the next 24 to 48 hours, and varies from location to location. The tendency is simply a tool for projecting weather conditions and is never to be relied upon as an accurate method to predict the weather. The barometer includes a manually set needle, which is used to mark the current measurement so a change can be seen. Barometric readings should be taken daily. Remember that the rate of change of barometric pressure is important in determining weather changes. You may want to take multiple readings each day during periods of unstable weather conditions.

The rich, wood framed classic weather station measures barometric pressure (liquid). The antique weather station displays an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument from Ambient Weather. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half-filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body. Also includes a comfort meter, which measures temperature and humidity, and a comfort zone indicator.

I just love it! We needed a clock/thermometer combo for our patio that could be seen from the house (my husbands desk looks out on the patio) and be heavy enough that it wouldn't fly off when things get windy where we live. (We get micro-bursts as well as high MPH winds where we live...) I also wanted something good looking. This hit all the marks, was a great value for what it is, plus it has a Hygrometer, which tracks humidity. The back of the unit "key holes" sit down over the screw heads and the clock itself is weighty and broad. Between both of those features, I expect it will stay put even in the windiest conditions we get around here. The weather station were programable to local weather (ex- dry Colorado weather at 65 degrees is "warmer" that damp NY weather at 65 degrees.) Since the sensor is wireless, it can be placed close to the ground, and the removable lid makes for easy service and maintenance. This thermometer is based on a thermoscope invented by Galileo Galilei in the early 1600`s. It`s made from a clear glass 23.5 inch (60 cm) high, 2.25 inch (6 cm) diameter liquid filled, sealed glass tube with a 3.5 inch (9 cm) diameter base, and 11 colored liquid filled floating glass bubbles. A metal tag engraved with varying degrees is attached to each bubble acting as counterweights for temperature readings as the bubbles rise and float with the changing temperatures. The bubble floating in the gap between those at the top and bottom indicates the ambient temperature. It makes a wonderful gift for history buffs, or those that like really cool things, and a fun conversational piece for your own home or office!
