This Bidjar pattern originates in Iran, however, the design of this rug was copied and re-created in the Bhadohi village in the Varanasi region of India by local weavers. The entire process of shearing, washing, dyeing, and weaving the rugs is done by village weavers. These rugs are virtually identical in design, workmanship, and authenticity to the originals. Herat Oriental works with over 2,000 village weavers to create beautiful, authentic, handmade rugs. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. As we grow, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. In contemporary Warlpiri paintings, traditional iconography is used to represent the "Jukurrpa" (Dreaming). Short dashes are often used to represent "Mangkurdu" (cumulus & stratocumulus clouds), and longer, flowing lines represent "Ngawarra" (flood waters). Small circles are used to depict "Mulju" (soakages) and riverbeds.
