It's extremely hard to see the number on and light icon on the solid black touch panel. It should have a back light. Could be the installer missed connecting a wire for the back light. It arrived undamaged and as described. We've been using it for about a year and it's been great! It's quieter than I expected at 1200 CFM, and certainly at least as quiet as the more expensive hoods at the appliance store (although it's probably slightly louder than lower-flow hoods, so adjust your expectations based on that!)..
