Use the Allen key that looks like a wine bottle opener! These chairs are beautiful, sturdy and very comfortable, but they take a few hours to put together. The first chair took me forever to assemble, but I used it as a learning experience. I learned that I could have saved myself a ton of time if I had used the provided allen key with the red top (looks like a wine bottle opener), instead of the conventional one that was also provided. I also learned that I needed help from someone else for a few stages in the process because it saves a lot of time. Things went a lot smoother and faster when I put together the second chair. These patio rocking chairs looked easy to assemble at first since there weren’t many parts, but it ended up being more work than I expected. The material is HDPE plastic (not real wood like I originally thought), but it does have a wood-like look and feel. The Allen wrench they provide really isn’t enough — some of the holes weren’t fully pre-drilled, and a few had plastic covering them that I had to push through. The long screws are no joke either. Trying to put those in by hand will wear your wrist out fast. Thankfully, my son showed up right in the middle of me working on the first chair and brought an impact driver, which made a huge difference — although that’s still why the first one took me about an hour. The second chair only took around 30 minutes once I had the right tool. That said, the finished chairs are absolutely beautiful, sturdy, and very comfortable — just like the pictures.
