The whole thing does blow up just fine with the valve open, but it won’t hold up as well without the valve closed with the ties. This is a great buy! I’m in Florida and as long as you drape it over a few chairs and let it dry out no mold has grown on it. You also don’t have to lift it up for it to drain. Awesome product!! I added balls to the water once i filled the pool. I weigh 275pounds and i know weight limit is 250 but my grandchildren wanted me to slide with them. The high rise ring around pool was a comfortable back prop for me after the kids wore my energy down. For the price i think it's definitely worth the money.
