The top layer is a polyester felt that is dyed with the image that you see on the mat. I purchased this V A Dianthus coir doormat to replace a V A Strawberry Thief coir doormat which I purchased 2 years ago. The black background looks terrific in front of my black door and the terra cotta hues really pick up the similar colors in my brick steps and foundation.
