I purchased the LG LDTS5552S dishwasher and have experienced a persistent chemical odor since the beginning of ownership. The smell is difficult to describe precisely, but it resembles heated rubber, vinyl, petroleum products, or synthetic plastic. The odor becomes stronger as the dishwasher heats up and appears to be emitted from the lower vent area. The problem occurs even during normal operation without using the High Temp or Extra Dry settings. Over the past year I have tried numerous troubleshooting steps, including cleaning the filters repeatedly, running cycles without detergent, using dishwasher cleaning cycles, and removing additional plastic accessories from inside the machine. None of these actions resolved the issue. The dishes themselves do not retain the odor, but the heated air emitted by the dishwasher does. The smell is strong enough to travel beyond the kitchen and can sometimes be noticed on the second floor of the house. After more than a year of trying to live with this issue, I have stopped using the dishwasher altogether and returned to washing dishes by hand because I am not comfortable having my family continuously exposed to the odor. What concerns me most is that this odor appears whenever the appliance is heated, suggesting that materials inside the unit may be releasing volatile compounds into the air. I do not know whether LG has evaluated the long-term impact of breathing these emissions during routine daily use, but I believe this is a legitimate concern that deserves attention. I am disappointed because otherwise the dishwasher performs well. If LG is aware of this issue or has a solution, I would genuinely appreciate a response. So only used it twice as it was delivered 2 days ago. The dishes came out spotless. I'm still experimenting with how much detergent to use as the instructions say "a moderate amount." I think 1-1/2 Tablespoons will be about right. It fits nicely on my very small counter space next to the sink. I have a quick connect adapter with a diverter for the kitchen faucet for an easy water source although I could also fill the water tank as an alternative and this machine automatically detects which water source you chose. So far I'm very happy with this countertop diswhasher. It's perfect for one or 2 people. The run time is an hour with an additional hour for drying so I turn it on at night when I'm done with the sink or just before bed. It's perfect for my senior downsizing life.
