I wish furniture manufacturers would stop to consider that not every piece of furniture is going to be put against a wall, so it would be nice to have a decent backing. The back of this bookcase is some sort of shiny, vinyl covered panel and the color is awful. Maybe it was meant to be faux marble, but they missed by a mile. Dimensions may vary slightly from selected, due to the nature of the wood and the time effect on it. We use pine boards for our distressed mantels. The final product might appear a bit lighter or darker because of the lighting and nature of the wood.
