There were no specifications with the item description so I was hoping it would be a universal fit for my vinyl double hung windows. However, it is not universal. The spacing of the screw holes are narrower than my existing window sash locks, and the back plate is too deep for my windows — this will not fit properly. I’d give 4 stars if the specifications were listed. This will probably work if you have a different window size or a wooden double hung that doesn’t have an existing lock. I wanted something with additional security. I’m keeping this in the original packaging as this will be donated since I can’t use it. This is a great product! I was excited to install on bathroom window after I painted, I checked where it would go to try out the lock and Dang it! My windows aren’t level! So I’m going to have to build up one to sit even as the lock is a very secure and tight fit, I didn’t know a keyed window lock existed. Once I figure out how to build up the wood I’ll insert a finished product picture, the picture here shows defect of my frame. Also the key will not come out of lock in the open position. Gail. This plastic sash cam fits onto the upper top sides of the window (vent) that is sliding up or down. The sash cam and window then rest on the top guide of the sash balance. It has dimensions of the top being 1 in. wide by 5/8 in. deep and 1-5/16 in. tall. The width of this top guide needs to fit correctly in the window's track frame in order for it to slide up or down properly, and the depth allows the window to correctly rest on the top guide of the sash balance.
