The blades retract when the fan is not in use!! How cool is that?! The crystals are beautiful and sparkly. Don't worry, the crystals do not move or make noise when the fan is on. It is absolutely gorgeous! I love it. I put it in the smallest bedroom that doubles as my craftroom-guestroom. It moves the air nicely. Its not as strong as a standard fan, though, but that should be expected. 4 stars because the instructions were a little unclear for two people who have never installed a ceiling fan before. I had to read Reddit forums to figure it out, but we got it up there and working.
