"William Moultrie" by Alonzo Chappel depicts the American Revolutionary War general, best known for his leadership in defending Fort Sullivan (later Fort Moultrie) against the British in 1776. Moultrie’s most famous contribution came early in the war when he commanded colonial forces at a partially constructed fort on Sullivan’s Island, near Charleston, South Carolina. This toilet was mounted of an exterior wall. The plumber mounted the water supply coming out of the floor, 6" to the left of the drain. All the modern skirted toilets had a base of 12" or wider.
