Auto locking mechanism looks the two pieces together. Chair frame made is solid wood and steel. They rock and swivel 180 only stationary when reclined. The leather is supple and soft, and durable. I purchased two and they are definitely worth the investment. These recliners are very comfortable to sit and lounge in with. It reclines just shy of flat. The recliner also has built in usb ports for charging devices the side when relaxing, however power is needed for charging and reclining. Once I purchased they were tagged online as out of stock. After a month of moderate usage in a sun-light/UV protected space, by 2 people w/no animals i will unfortunately have to change the initial 4.5 star rating to a 2.5 star rating for the following reasons: 1) the chair back & w/recliner extended is designed to comfortably accommodate a person under 5'9" - works for me at 5' but not my husband @ 6'. 2) the recliners foot-leg rest only extends to full-out - there is no partial or 1/2 way for the leg extension. 3) on both chairs, the leather on the head-rest & seat-back & the seat cushions very quickly/prematurely began drooping/sagging, wrinkled & starting to show a crack/split appearance (that is not due to years of age as would be expected) and is only getting worse over time. The price-point for these at the time was reasonable & on paper the 'look' & description of them seemed to be the perfect fit to enhance our Great Rooms furniture suite; unfortunately the quality of these recliners materials & the size/mechanical limitations are disappointing and will not meet the hoped for expectations for comfortability w/a quality handsome appearance or the quality of durability & long wear. - sv.
