Cecilia Gallerani, the mistress of Leonardo's employer, Lodovico Sforza, was a 16-year-old known for her beauty, scholarship and poetry. One of only four female portraits by da Vinci and the one heralded as the first truly modern portrait, this work shows his expertise in painting the human form with great detail, from curved fingernail to aristocratic forehead. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. The replica 4.375" wide, European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Another beautiful and "tastefully-ornate" piece from Design Toscano. The frame is very ornate with a fine balance between antiquing distress and neatness. The frame can be a center piece in a large hall (though I have it in a smaller space - works well for me there too). The painting itself appears very faithful to Leonardo's piece; heavier-than-original pastel brushstrokes may have been simulated by Toscano as useful embellishment. Lady with an Ermine (Italian: Dama con l'ermellino [ˈdaːma kon lermelˈliːno]; Polish: Dama z gronostajem) is a painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489–1490 and one of Poland's national treasures. The portrait's subject is Cecilia Gallerani, painted at a time when she was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, and Leonardo was in the Duke's service. It is one of only four portraits of women painted by Leonardo, the others being the Mona Lisa, the portrait of Ginevra de' Benci, and La belle ferronnière. The Princes Czartoryski Collection, including the Lady with an Ermine, was sold for €100 million on 29 December 2016 to the Polish government by Princes Czartoryski Foundation, represented by Adam Karol Czartoryski, the last direct descendant of Izabela Czartoryska Flemming and Adam George Czartoryski, who brought the painting to Poland from Italy in 1798. he painting is currently located at the Czartoryski Museum in Kraków.

‘Salvator Mundi’ is Latin for ‘Savior of the World.’ One of the few known paintings by Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, dated to c. 1500, ‘Salvator Mundi’ depicts Jesus in Renaissance attire, making the sign of the cross with his right hand and holding a crystal orb in his left, which represents the ‘celestial sphere’ of the heavens. There are around 20 known variations of this painting by students and followers of Leonardo and remains his most copied painting. The original was thought to have been lost after the mid-17th century. Various copies have been considered as the original through historical conjecture. In 2005, a Salvator Mundi was presented and acquired at an auction for less than $10,000. It had been heavily overpainted so it looked like a copy. Before restoration, it was described as "a wreck, dark and gloomy." However, the consortium believed that this unkempt painting might actually be the long-lost original by Leonardo. During the restoration process, a stepped area of unevenness was discovered near Christ's face -- it had been shaved down with a sharp object, and leveled with a mixture of gesso, paint and glue, showing an uncertainty in the composition by the artist. Infrared photographs of the painting showed a pentimento (earlier draft -- literally 'repent') of the painting which had the blessing hand's thumb in a straight, rather than curved, position. This is crucial, as it showed the artist had a second thought about the positioning. It was deemed that this is not a copy but indeed an original, since copiers would have no doubts about the placement of Christ’s thumb or the composition. ‘Salvator Mundi’ is the only known Leonardo artwork to be continuously held in private collections and was auctioned for $450.3 million on November 15 2017 in New York to Prince Badr bin Abdullah, setting a new record for the most expensive painting ever sold at public auction. The current location of the painting is uncertain.
