I was very pleased with the size and appearance of the two vases exactly what I needed. However, the problem was separating the vases once I removed them from the very sturdy box. They shipped stacked together inside the box and wrapped in plastic, which was probably cost effective, but very impractical from a customers perspective. Long story short, I sprayed WD-40 along the rim and plastic, waited 5 mins, lightly tapped along the rim with a hamper, then pulled on the plastic, and they came a part easily at that point. I am OBSESSED with these! I've loved window boxes since living in Germany in the 1990s but always had a hard time finding ones to fit my deck railings. I've done the wire holder with plastic box and they just looked blah. These look amazing! I can't wait until the grass grows tall and petunias and sweet potato vines spill over. One of the biggest strengths of this planter line is the variety of sizes available. There are everything from shallow bowls to very tall, narrow planters, which makes it easy to find something that fits your space. I chose one of the medium-tall versions, and it works great for larger potted plants. I think these look even better when paired with the optional wooden stands, and I regret not picking those up at the same time. The overall style fits a modern or industrial design really well. I have both the horizontal and vertical stripe versions. The textured finish helps break up the surface, but these are still clearly plastic planters with a bit of that plastic sheen. Of the two styles, I prefer the vertical stripes. The horizontal-striped black planters remind me a little of plastic drain tile, while the vertical pattern looks more refined. I also really like the versions with both directions of stripes. For the taller models, I fill the bottom portion with wood chips before adding soil. It saves money on potting mix, keeps the planter lighter, and still leaves plenty of room for roots. Even only partially filled, these planters are sturdy and heavy enough that they do not feel tippy. Overall, these are attractive, well-sized planters that offer dimensions that are difficult to find elsewhere. These are neat planters in a size that is surprisingly hard to find. The bowls are wide and shallow, making them perfect for annuals, succulents, or other plants that don't need a lot of soil depth. I can also see them working well for large flats of flowers. I've even used them on a patio table filled with ice and drinks. There are two drainage hole with rubber plugs. Work well and come out easy. The plastic is thick and fairly heavy, giving them a sturdier feel than many inexpensive planters. I prefer the vertical stripe pattern over the horizontal version. The finish has some texture, although it still clearly looks like plastic. The horizontal-striped model reminds me a bit of a planter made from drain tile, while the vertical pattern looks better. One downside is that the vertical ribbing may make the planter a little more susceptible to cracking. One of the two bowls I received arrived with a vertical crack.
